Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: We accept all major credit cards through Pay Pal, money orders, certified personal checks and email money transfers. We'll send you an invoice by e-mail together with your proof. However your order will not be shipped until we receive full payment.

Q: Do I need to open an account in order to pay with PayPal?
A: You can pay securely with a credit card through PayPal without signing up for an account.

Q: Can I cancel my order?
A: Completed orders are non-refundable. You can cancel up to the proof approval stage, but once the proof is approved, your order cannot be cancelled.

Q: Do the cards come with envelopes?
A: All orders include white envelopes. We'll also send you a couple of extra envelopes for free in case you make a mistake while labeling.

Q: Can I order the envelopes early?
A: Of course you can! For expecting parents who want to get a head start addressing and stamping the envelopes, we offer pre-shipping of envelopes for an additional shipping charge of $6. However, you do not have to choose your design until after your baby is born.

Q: On what kind of paper are the announcements printed?
A: The announcements are professionally printed on Fuji Crystal Archive Supreme Photo Paper which is thicker and more durable than conventional photo paper. You can also choose to have your prints mounted on white metallic cardstock, for a specially beautiful effect.

Q: Can you design cards for other occasions?
A: We can design for any occasion. We will work together with you to create the perfect paper memory. There is no additional charge.

Q: I would like to print the cards myself. Is that possible?
A: Yes! For $45 you can purchase the design only and have your cards printed at home or at any photocentre.

Q: Can you change colors/fonts/text on a design we selected?
A: Absolutely. Because the cards are custom design cards, if you're not happy with the ideas provided, all colors, fonts and text on the designs can be changed. Just indicate any design changes you would like in the 'requests/comments box on the order form.

Q: How long does it take to get my announcements?
A: Once we have the photo(s) and all the information, you will receive a digital proof, usually within 48 hours. Once you approve the proof, and payment is received in full, the order will take about 2 to 3 business days to ship. Orders are shipped via Canada Post Mail and will take 2-3 days to arrive to you. We do our best to provide you with quality and fast service, but sometimes it will take a little longer to get your announcements to you when our workload is particularly heavy, or when the Canadian Postal Service takes longer than expected to deliver packages, for example durig the holiday season. For an extra fee, we will courier your order to you.

Q: Can we use a photo from a professional photographer?
A: Yes, but only if you include written permission from the photographer allowing us to reproduce the image. Most photographers will grant you permission if they do not offer you a product similar to ours. This written permission is called a copyright release, and is required by law.

Q: Should I alter the photo first before sending it to you?
A: It is best that you don't. We can make any necessary changes to your image before we use it and sometimes when an image is already cropped, it might be harder to work with in the layout of the card. It is our preference that you submit original images and we will make sure that your photo will look its best in the layout.

Q: Can you fix my damaged/undesirable photo?
A: We sure can! We automatically make minor corrections including: cropping, color enhancement, blemish removal and some color tinting. If your image is unsuitable for print or is not correctable, we will let you know as well. Digital photos with very low resolution are also very difficult to correct; for that purpose, please make sure the images taken using a digital camera have been set to the highest resolution setting possible (300 dpi is ideal) and the least amount of compression. Also, please turn off the date stamp feature on your camera.

Q: How do I send a digital photo?
A: Set your digital camera to the highest quality setting. Save the file with at least a 300 dpi as either a .jpg, or .tiff file. 300 dpi is ideal, but the higher the image quality, the better. Please do not compress the file to make it smaller, as this will affect the final print quality. Send us the original unaltered and uncropped photos by e-mail to info@buttercupprints.com. We will always let you know when we receive your photo, and whether your chosen image is unsuitable for print.

Q: I don't have a digital camera. How do I send you a picture?
A: If you have access to a scanner, please scan at no less than 100% at 300 dpi. and save it as a .jpg or .tiff file. Then you can e-mail the file to us. If you prefer to send a physical photograph, we will provide you with our mailing address and you can mail it to us. Your original photo will be returned with your final order. Please make sure you have a duplicate of the original photograph, we are not responsible for lost or damaged photographs.

Q: Do I get a proof before my announcement is printed?
A: Yes you do. You will receive a digital online proof of your card through e-mail. Any changes can be made at that time, and a revised proof will be sent back to you for approval. We will not process your order until you have approved the proof. Once that's completed, it is final and your proof goes to print. We encourage you to carefully check the proof for any mistakes, as we are not responsible for any errors once the proof is approved.

Q: I am not in Canada. Can I still order announcements?
A: Yes, please see the Prices page for shipping costs to The United States. For all other countries, send us an e-mail at info@buttercupprints.com for a shipping quote. You can also purchase the design only (no prints) for a fee of $35 and have your cards printed localy.

Q: What if I want to order more announcements later?
A: We keep all designs on disk in the event you need more. There is a minimum order of 25 cards.

Q: Will you accept low resolution images?
A: We cannot make proofs with low resolution images because they won't work for print. The image will be too pixelated and your card will not have the beautiful crisp quality that it deserves. If you have trouble uploading your high resolution photos, please contact us via email at info@buttercupprints.com. Additionally, we ask that you not send in camera phone photos. Camera phones are set on a very low resolution and we are unable to use the photos that are downloaded from them.
